What is Scalp Micropigmentation?

Scalp micropigmentation is a modern, non surgical solution for hair loss. An innovative procedure, it replicates the appearance of hair folicles through medical hair tattooing using pigment.

Hair loss can be the result of a number of medical and psychological conditions, as well as one of the most common causes: male- and female-pattern baldness. But whatever the reason, for most people, it's very distressing, especially as there are no easy solutions or cures.

Help is at hand though, in the form of scalp micropigmentation or commonly known as SMP. Rather than trying to make the hair grow back, this treatment creates the illusion of real hair through an intricate tattoo. Similar to 'microblading', this treatment is quick, relatively pain free and very effective.

SMP involves replicating the appearance of shaven hair, through thousands of tiny pigment deposits in the epidermis of the scalp.

This creates the look of a full head of shaven hair, hiding the appearance of pattern or complete baldness.

How Scalp Micropigmentation Can Help?

Scalp Micropigmentation is a form of medical tattooing. However, SMP practitioners use different equipment and undergo specialist training to perform the perfect procedure.

The Procedure can be used for:

  • Tacking skin conditions such as alopecia

  • Reforming receding hairlines
  • Proving density to thinning hair

While most people do not find SMP painful, there is a level of discomfort felt during the procedure; however everyone has different pain thresholds. The level of any discomfort for most would be a 3 out of 10 at most (with 10 being very painful and one being not painful at all). Some describe the feeling of a small pinprick on the scalp while others even find it relaxing.

Scalp Micropigmentation Appointments

Most SMP treatments require two – three separate sessions. There may be some slight redness after treatment which will subside within a few hours.
Scalp micropigmentation is suitable for men and women from the age of 18.

Your first visit will be for a consultation and patch test. Our technician will agree a hairline for you, based on your original hairline and face shape. They will then test a small discrete area on your scalp.

On your second visit, our technician will map out the hairline with a white pencil. They will then implant thousands of micro dots over your scalp – each sitting typically taking 2-3 hours. This will then be repeated 1 week later, and after a further 4 weeks you will come back for your third and final visit to ensure that everything is looking perfect.

Aftercare

SMP is a permanent solution to hair loss and with the correct maintenance and touch ups it will last a lifetime. Touch ups will depend on the client’s immune system and other various factors, the biggest being sun exposure. Most clients tend to touch up every four to six years.
SMP is immediately effective from the first session.

SMP requires some aftercare. You will be given products to take with you. Long term, you should moisturize regularly and share as often as needed to maintain the natural blending of your own hair. We advise that you invest in a good quality sunscreen to help protect your scalp from harmful UV rays.
